Lakeside Power Plant
Project Name:
Date: Jun-2012
Project Status: Completed
Location: Vineyard, UT
Tonnage: 1115
Fabricator: The Star Group. Inc.

The Lake Side Power Plant is a large multi-story, new construction power plant built adjacent to the utility’s existing Lake Side plant, located about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City, in Vineyard, Utah. The project, called Lake Side 2, would feature two natural gas combined-cycle combustion turbines and generators, together with a steam turbine generator to produce electricity from the exhaust heat of the combustion turbines. Lake Side 2 will generate approximately 637 megawatts, which is equivalent to the needs of approximately 326,000 typical homes. The plant would feature extensive emission control systems to meet or exceed all current environmental requirements.

This project consists of large columns, beam girders, infill beams, girt framing, chevron and X-Bracing, multiple levels of platform framing, and roof and wall penetrations. International Design Services, Inc. scope of work includes structural steel detailing of  the STG Bld. , Electrical room, Platforms, Silencer framing, ISO Phase and Bus Support framing, and the WT Bld along with all structural steel elements that have been released in IDS’s scope of work. IDS, Inc. is also responsible for the value engineering and connection design review of any connections shown on the contract documents. The BRB Braced Frames were fully designed by GC Engineers and IDS help in facilitating connection designs with gusset model layout diagrams. This project was modeled in Tekla version 17.0 and a web viewer created by Tekla detailers. The web viewer allows all parties involved to view the 3D product without having Tekla installed on their systems. The drawings and data files were exported into 2D formation per the fabricators request. Approximate tonnage was calculated at 1115 tons of structural steel, with a total duration of 11 weeks for approval.
