AP 1000 Nuclear Turbine Plants
Project Name:
Date: Sep-2011
Project Status: Ongoing
Location:
Tonnage: 33200
Fabricator: Shaw SSS Fabricators, Inc.

International Design Services is providing structural steel detailing and connection design for the construction of (4) typical nuclear plants being constructed in Georgia and South Carolina. Portions of the building are designated as part of the seismic load resisting system (SLRS) with protected zones controlled accordingly. Each plant is in excess of 8,300 tons including miscellaneous stairs and guardrails. Detailing is being performed with Tekla Structures allowing coordination with the 3D model to the design team.

The construction consists of five modules designed to allow for complete erection at the jobsite on temporary footings, thus allowing erection of these modules to be concurrent with extensive foundation work on their permanent setting. Once the modules are erected they will be lifted as complete assemblies of up to 660 tons for CH82 on the permanent anchors. After the (5) modules are in place erection of the remaining turbine building structure can commence.

Through extensive coordination with the design team through to the fabrication facility and its QA department, International Design Services has been a key component in ensuring that practical solutions are achieved in production of these facilities.

The Turbine Building site was referenced in the March 2012 Issue of Engineering News Record. View the article here: Turbine Building Article
