For the Elon University Global Neighborhood Dining Hall, IDS's scope includes detailing the structural steel and performing connection design. The structural steel detailing consists of wide flange beams and columns, HSS members, and large Trusses, the largest truss being nearly 90'-0" long. For the connection design we are producing calculations for the moment, shear, brace, and truss connections. IDS has developed job set-up drawings to jump start detailing and get preliminary approval of the basic connections that will be used on the job. We have also provided several proposals to eliminate field welding and difficult to erect connections shown in the design drawings to help Davis Steel save time and money. For example the truss connections were changed from welded to bolted connection for more efficient field and shop assembly. Also we have configured the splice locations of the trusses to the dimensions required to shop assemble as much of the trusses as possible. Utilizing IDS's experienced Tekla Detailers to model this project allows for easy coordination with other trades and provides insight into the 3D Model of the structure before it is built. IDS |
