Milton Madison Bridge over Ohio River
Project Name:
Date: May-2011
Project Status: Ongoing
Location: Madison, In-Milton, KY
Tonnage: 480
Fabricator: Hillsdale/ Alberici

The Milton Madison Bridge Project is a 2400 foot long replacement bridge over the Ohio River between Milton, Kentucky and Madison, Indiana. The new bridge is being installed atop the existing piers, which are being rehabilitated.

IDS’ scope consisted of detailing sliding, tine, upper and lower cap plate girders for three of the piers. Each plate girder is actually a box girder with multiple webs and dozens of stiffeners. The new bridge will be erected on temporary piers and slid into place on the existing piers using the sliding girder assemblies, thus allowing for minimal disruption to traffic.

The project was detailed in Tekla 3D modeling software to support BIM coordination.

The Milton Madison Bridge was featured in the February 2012 issue of Modern Steel Construction. View the article here: Milton Madison Bridge Article
