Brookhaven Lab Science
Project Name:
Date: Nov-2010
Project Status: Completed
Location: Upton, NY
Tonnage: to be determined
Fabricator: MCLO Structural Steel, Inc.

This project is for the Brookhaven National Laboratory under the United States Department of Energy.   The structure consists of 2 levels of steel roof framing on top of 3 concrete levels.  The high and low roof levels are supported by braced frames, cantilevered beams, and special curved joists moment connected to the columns.

Coordination with embeds in concrete and the joist supplier is especially critical on this project due to many unusual connections.   IDS's scope consists of detailing shop drawings for the structural steel, embeds, and canopy framing.   In order to aid the steel erector, IDS has proposed and designed extended connections to the column webs to avoid having to field weld cap plates and stiffener plates in the columns.

This project is scheduled to complete in the 1st quarter of 2011.
