PS - 51 Manhattan
Project Name:
Date: Nov-2010
Project Status: Completed
Location: Manhattan, NY
Tonnage: 830
Fabricator: Weir Welding Company, Inc.

This is a 5 story school constructed on 44th Street in downtown Manhattan.  The structure consists of HSS braced frame construction.  Moment connections were designed using bolted connections thus reducing field welding requirements and subsequently reducing labor costs on the project. IDS scope of work includes detailing and connection design for the structural steel.  Typical of many schools constructed in city environments, the play yard is on the roof of the school.  Data files were provided for automated cutting including the weld prep of HSS framing members for the roof netting support structure.

The project was awarded to IDS in early October 2010 with erection schedule to commence in early 2011.  Taking advantage of the extended production schedule requirements, through advance planning and coordination with the fabricator and engineer of record we were able to achieve cost savings through economical connection designs.  Brace connection designs, hung lintel support details, and play yard net support frame are just a few of the areas analyzed to achieve savings.
