IDS Philippines Community Charity Outeach - Oct 11 2009

They say "small deeds done are better than great deeds planned" - something the IDS, Inc. believes .

IDS, Inc. considers it an honor and opportunity to be of help to community in many different ways.

It is the spirit of benevolence that grips the heart of everybody at  IDS, Inc. to exert effort and inspire those who need help and assistance.

Recently, some of IDS Management Team, headed by Ms. Teresita Tesoro, Ms. Marycel Cinco and Ms. Flora Ruby Ozaeta, went to places in Quezon City that were devastated by the typhoon "Ondoy". The staff prepared meals that could ease the pain of distressed flood victims and gave much more of ourselves in helping assist them in the midst of a terrible experience.

In seeing them, our minds were filled with curiosity and then shifted to sympathy for those who lost properties they have worked on for years and even worst, their loved ones. So, IDS worked hand with a group of enthusiastic people from ChristLife Assemblies, Inc. to cook and pack the food to be distributed to "Ondoy" victims.

October 6, 2009 / North Fairview - A 30 minute drive from the office. Murky roads, shattered houses, stack of soiled clothes, and sad, remorseful faces of residents welcomed us as we approached the place designated for food distribution area. Water wasn't properly supplied so they had no choice but to wash their spared clothes on a nearby water passage mixed with sewage. Many people were cleaning up their places from the destruction that typhoon "Ondoy" caused. It had a gloomy air. However, our presence brought joy to them as we give out 350 packs of newly-cooked food, food stubs were distributed individually before we arrived for a more organized food distribution. The cooperation of everybody working in the "Ondoy outreach" which was filled with love and care was evident. Many hands of volunteers from ChristLife passed food packs to the food station. The long line was filled with young and old, men and women waiting for a meal that could satisfy their hunger. Smiles filled with heart-felt gratitude were overwhelming as we handed food to them. We could hear them say, "You just don't know how much you have helped us". You would have uncontainable joy to hear those. Food stubs were all gone but there were still packs of undistributed food so, we called others to fall in line and get a pack of food and continued to give until all food packs were given out. The task was over but the experience taught us of something deep inside each of us.

October 7, 2009 / Bagong Silangan - We set off with more anticipation. Learned from the technique we had on the first day, the staff planned a more trouble-free method of distributing the food. Not to mention the numbers of boxes of noodles, hundred of designed rubber slippers and detergent soaps. Detergents were requested by the people there since they didn't have anything to use to wash their soiled clothes. We worked with the same group of people in the food distribution as the day before. We could see that the village people really anticipated our visit to their place. We got a coordinator that made things much easier that we expected, food stubs were distributed to them a day before we came. The number of people doubled from the amount of people we helped on the first day of outreach. Hundreds put themselves in line to register their names on the list to get a pack of coocked food, it went faster than we thought. Another line was formed after the food was handed out, one by one, mothers and children waited for the slippers, soap and noodles. It may be a small portion of our goods distributed but it meant hope to them. Endless "thank you's" echoed in our ears from a number of people that we completely don't know. We didn't bring much but the goods went to many lives living in Bagong Silangan. We toured the place with the coordinators seeing the tragic experience they had. We talked to a few people  and kids as we watched them enjoying the food we prepared for them. We left there filled with sort of an awesome feeling of reaching out of people, even in our own little ways.

October 10, 2009 / Barangay Banaba, San Mateo Rizal - This is the place where temporary shelters were given to the flood victims who lost their houses. Another group of IDS staff went and distributed coocked food, loaves of bread, slippers and drinks to hundreds encamped on two basketball courts.
